Not a bad movie by any means, but Walter Hill’s directorial debut is too minor (and surprisingly old-fashioned) to ever feel special. Good Charles Bronson performance, though. C+
Sparse, minimalist, and tight as fuck. Hill’s take on Le Samourai features some of the best car chases I’ve ever seen in my life. Really outstanding. B+
Walter Hill firing on all cylinders, like a wonderfully delirious mix of The Warriors, Wizard of Oz and Run Lola Run. Willem Defoe steals the show. A-
Walter Hill is too good a director (and Eddie Murphy too charismatic a performer) for this to be a waste of time, but the poorly-paced script really lets them all down. B-
